  4. What are the benefits of using a tunable diaphragm?
The tunable diaphragm which is a 3M invention allows you to listen to both high and low frequency sounds without removing the chest piece from the patient. Just turn it over and reposition.
A tunable diaphragm will tune or adjust the sounds to enable you to hear either high or low frequencies by varying the pressure placed on the patient. When you press the tunable diaphragm firmly on the chest, high frequency sounds will be emphasized. When you lighten the pressure you apply, you should be able to hear low frequency sounds which are transmitted.
This will save you time and you can focus on your patient instead of trying to decide whether to listen from the diaphragm or bell side of the chestpiece.
